Baby Food

I made a bunch of baby food today for Aiden. So far he's had peaches, squash, avocado, and applesauce. I gave Nolan mostly the store bought baby food. It's such a scam because the "organic" baby food has a main ingredient of water! Making the baby food this time is so much better for him and it's even more affordable. I bought enough fruits and vegetables tonight to make and freeze enough food for 2-3 months, all for $21. Also some of it is for Nolan too.

This chair use to be my Dad's and I also used it when I was a kid. He restored it for Nolan with Thomas material. Nolan loved it! It's so unique and even the buttons are train faces from the material. He wouldn't let me take too many pictures of him in it but I got a lot of cute ones of Aiden. Nolan says, "Thanks Papa!"

Every 2 weeks I have a child development specialist come in and do different things with Nolan. (There's nothing wrong with him, this will just help him transition to preschool.) She told me that putting beans, rice, etc in a bowl would be good for his tactile reflex. Who would have thought that two bags of kidney beans could keep him busy for an hour...

Pecan Cop Cars

Ice cream, or as Nolan calls it, "chocolate", no matter what kind it is. I was at the store the other day and thought I'd get some ice cream since we haven't had it since I was pregnant. I couldn't find Chocolate or Vanilla in the brand I wanted so I grabbed Butter Pecan. This was an even better find since Aaron won't touch this flavor! Well to my surprise, Nolan will! He loves it just like me and he even likes the pecans. We were eating it together and he kept pointing to the pecans, telling me he wanted a cop car. He calls the pecans "cop cars" and wants one with every bite! His imagination gets bigger everyday...

My Dad and I took Nolan to a train show in St. Charles. We barely got a parking spot. They had some really cool layouts and of course lots of things to buy. Nolan was a little challenging but I know he enjoyed seeing everything.

Realizing once again, I'm taking his picture....

So on Christmas morning we learned that Nolan likes his picture taken when the camera is on a tripod. He will pose for the picture and then get up and run to the camera to see what it took and then go pose again. I guess he thinks it's pretty cool that the camera can take his picture all by itself. I did this again on New Years Eve and he still loves it. He even wanted to go over and take some pictures himself. Maybe he secretly likes photography!

This is one of the best gifts I've been given. My brother and his girlfriend, Mandy, gave me this bracelet for my birthday yesterday. All the red beads on it were made out of flowers from our wedding. The silver heart on it can be engraved, which I'm going to have 'Aaron & Nicole 10-13-2007' put on it.

Water Pics

Last time I went to my Mom & Dad's I took Nolan out to the Lake to try and get some pictures of him. I had taken pictures for 2 different families out there the day before and the weather was perfect and fall colors were out. I got a few good ones of him down by the water. He calls these his 'water' pictures. He loves the water and he had a meltdown when we had to leave.

Raking Leaves & Cleaning Gutters

Nolan did not like Aaron throwing the leaves off and hitting his mower...

So he got back at him by picking them up and throwing them on Aaron's car.

We finally went and bought a rake. While Aaron cleaned the gutters I raked leaves for Nolan. If it hadn't been as cold as it was he would have played in these all day.

Fun Time Station

My mom and I took Nolan over to Quincy for the Fun Time Station today. I was suppose to go to Quincy for training (daycare license), but it was filled up. So Nolan got lucky! Fun Time Station was sponsored by WQEC/PBS and provides hands-on activities for children and their families. Special appearances were made by Clifford, Curious George, and Super Why! I wasn't sure how Nolan would do since he's only 2. When we arrived we first saw Super Why, but he was getting ready to get on the elevator. Nolan was a little leery but I know he recognized him from the tv show. By the time I got my camera ready and Nolan was warming up to him the elevator opened so I didn't get a picture of him. We got in to the event and Clifford was out greeting all the kids. Again it took Nolan some time but he warmed up and then was a hog! He didn't want to leave his side. He was the same way with Curious George. He just loved them! He wanted to give them hugs and kisses and be the center of attention with them. Nolan also got to do a bunch of hands on activities. I will post pictures soon!

Last night I went to put Nolan in his crib and he wanted to get on his toddler bed. He's done this before and always gotten back up. I let him lay down and just put the blanket from his crib over him. We did the whole routine and I left the room like normal. I waited and waited and waited for him to come back out with a big grin on his face. I called Aaron and waited another 10 - 15 minutes before I went in to check on him. This is what I found...

He came in our room a little after 6 am ready to get his day started. Sounds early but I think it's a good start!! We'll see what happens tonight...

Nolan went trick or treating tonight with his friend Clayton. He was a Skeleton and Clayton was a Monkey. They were so cute together tonight. They walked into most of the houses on their own and said treat or treat, thank you, and bye. They quickly understood the process of going in, getting their treat, and heading for the door to get the next treat. We took them around Walshville so I got to see a lot of people I haven't seen in years. Most were giving the kids 3 full candy bars!! I have more pictures I will add later.

Hat, Coat, AND Gloves

I had to get a picture of him in all his winter gear. It's SO HARD to get pictures of him, let alone to get all of this stuff on him. I think he will be fine after a week of doing it everyday. This is the first time wearing gloves like this and he threw a little tantrum getting the 2nd glove on but we did get it on. Last week we went thru the trantrums of having to wear this kinda of hat since he's use to ballcaps. The rule is - he doesn't go outside with Daddy without all of it on and then he usually complies. The fleece jacket he has on attaches into his winter coat so it's even warmer.

DISCLAIMER: Don't be surprised when I start posting pictures of him mowing even after it's snowed!!!

It's probably hard to see but on the fence post there is a squirrel that Nolan spotted. We've seen him a few different times this year and he is usually over in the neighbor's tree.

10-22-08 New Haircut

Aaron and Nolan were getting ready to watch a DVD about building train layouts so I thought I'd put him in his booster, get out a sucker, and try to cut his hair. He did good again this month for me and I like this cut even better. I now know how to use the clippers to cut ALL of his hair and not just the back so I got a lot of the thickness off the top and it is more even. It's not awful and it's saving us $120 / year!

Piano Man

Nolan really likes one of the Barney episodes that aired recently (I DVR them). It is all about pianos, keyboards, and music. So I mentioned that we should bring my keyboard up from the basement. Aaron brought it up and cleaned it off for him and he LOVES it!! Maybe because it has all those extra buttons where you can make animal sounds, drum sounds, and his favorite....TRAIN sounds!! He was amazed!

Nice, huh? So I got a call from Aaron Sunday night. It was almost 2 hours before he was to get off work and he tells me, "I just smoked a deer". I said, "Oh that sucks, are you ok though?" (At this point I am realizing the time and he is still at work so he's driving the police car.) He goes on and on talking about how his hood is messed up pretty bad though and he's waiting on the other officer to get there so he can get the report done. Then I think OMG, it's OUR car! He got off work a little early since he was going to be working early the next morning here in Rushville. Thanks to that deer (who broke his neck and all legs) his car is now in the shop getting repaired.

Well I'm parting ways with my old point and shoot camera. I sold it on ebay and I'm so excited, I thought I'd post about it. I thought I'd still use it a lot so I've kept it the past year and never used it once. I'm using the money I made on it to get a Nikon point and shoot that is really small and I can just throw in my purse. Now I don't have to be the crazy mom out at random places snapping pictures with a big DSLR. Plus maybe it will confuse Nolan and he will start posing for me!!

Nolan loves this little 4 month old girl I watch. I use to watch her everyday but now it's just here and there. The moment she arrived here the other day Nolan kept saying 'kiss, kiss' and wanted to hold her and give her kisses. He then of course thought she needed her bottle. He is definately going to be a good big brother and a lot of help - when he wants to be!!!

Nolan is finally wanting us to read to him and most of the time he will sit still and listen!!! Very exciting because I've had a million books for him since he was little but for a long time he just wanted to flip through the pages and be totally in control. Here he is trying to keep Aaron from leaving for work, having him read one of his favorite books, "We Help Mommy".

We had a dr. appt on the 29th and afterwards we took Nolan to South Park in Quincy to hang out for a little bit. I wanted to try and get some good pictures of him but he was mad I was trying to take the pictures. Then on our way home we were stopped by a train passing. Of course that was the best thing in the world to him.

The last 2 haircuts we've taken him to the salon. Now that he's a little older I'm attempting to cut it again. I put him in his booster seat in front of a Thomas movie, gave him a sucker, and we were good to go. He held still for me and I think it was one of the best cuts I've done.

I went and got the 12" cables I needed to get going on the legs. I had to start the gusset first, which I did. This picture shows the gusset (not grafted yet) and the left leg started. I think I will actually be able to finish these!!! I don't like the color of the yarn now but oh well.

Thomas and the Flood

We've had some water in our basement due to all the rain, pipe problems, etc that are being investigated. Nolan had taken Thomas down there to play a few nights before the rain. I had the bright idea that he could play with his trains while Daddy worked on his own train set. Nolan misplaced Thomas down there but after a few days in the water he was recovered. We're gonna have to send him over to Papa's shop to be repaired I think......

My Little Cookie Monster

A couple nights ago I made some chocolate chip cookies and let Nolan have some. After he finished eating I turned on a movie for him and got him to sit in the sunroom so I could run downstairs to grab some laundry. As I was downstairs I heard him running through the house, then everything was quiet. I came back up the stairs to see him still in the sunroom but he had helped himself to MORE 'cooks' as he calls them now.

This is how I found them on the floor, thankfully not overturned.
